The farm was bought in 1965, from the Mc Ford's and consisted of a 3 acre plot. Outdoor vegetables were the main crop, cauliflowers being the specialty. Small greenhouses were built to grow pull plants, for the farm itself. In 1987 a further 1/4 of an acre of greenhouses were built for growing module plants for the farm. One year, too many plants were grown; these were in turn sold to local farmers. Since then we have been supplying and growing plants for various farmers. We have since developed into a successful business. We now grow 50 million plants in 4 acres of greenhouses, supplying farmers throughout the UK. Our crops include cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, sprouts and leeks. Seeds can also be sown and not grown, thus allowing farmer's to grow their own plants on their own property, using our trays. High quality plants are grown throughout the year, as great care is taken to control the environment within the greenhouses. This is done through our climate controls systems, powered gantries and expert knowledge on feeding and pest control. Our active involvement in maintaining the standards set out by the Plant Propagation Association's Code of Good Practise also ensures that our plants are of the highest quality. |
